About us
VW Singers was founded in 2018 as an auditioned chamber choir in Dorking, Surrey. With permission from the Ralph Vaughan Williams Society, we named it after the great composer, Dorking's most famous musical resident and a key figure in the development of English choral music in the 20th century.

We sing Vaughan Williams' music, of course, but our repertoire is wide-ranging and eclectic. We focus on the music of our own time, and we seek out contemporary music from across the globe, but we admit to a particular soft spot for Vaughan Williams' teacher, Hubert Parry.

Much of the time we sing a cappella, ie without accompaniment, but we are very lucky that our MD's wife, Jan Assersohn, who sings alto in the choir, is an experienced and accomplished pianist, and she acts as our accompanist when the situation requires.

We perform a number of concert a year, in various venues, locally and beyond. Features of our year are our afternoon tea concert in early spring, and, latterly, our combined Carols by Candlelight concerts with Surrey Brass at Christmas time.
